Surfaces: at least 2 surfaces to each class
Recommended sizes: 5x7”, 8x10”, 9x12”, 11x14”
Options for surfaces:
o Canvas panels, store-bought or homemade
o Ampersand gesso panels
o Centurion Deluxe Oil Primed Linen canvas pads
o Strathmore or Arches Oil Painting Paper
Brushes: A combination of bristle and sable brushes in a variety of sizes. Recommended brands:
o Bristles: Robert Simmons Signet Brushes (filberts, brights, rounds)
o Natural hair sable: Rosemary & co Masters Choice Brushes series 279 (long flats)
o Synthetic sable: Rosemary & Co Eclipse (Longer Flats)
o Synthetic sable: Princeton Umbria Brushes 6200F (flats)
Palette options:
o Masterson Sta-Wet palette with a 12” x 16” piece of glass in the bottom
o Metal paint scraper and rubbing alcohol for cleaning
o Or New Wave handheld palette
Cleaning Solvent: Please use only Gamsol Odorless Mineral Spirits by Gamblin! (Store in metal
or glass brush washer)
Mediums (optional): Please use only oderless mediums while in class, e.g.: Gamblin solventfree
gel.
Paint: Preferred brands are: Gamblin, Winsor & Newton, and Rembrandt
o Napthol red (Gamblin)
o Permanent rose (Winsor & Newton)
o Cadmium lemon
o Cadmium yellow deep
o Viridian (Rembrandt)
o Ultramarine blue
o Cerulean blue hue or Manganese blue hue (Gamblin)
o Titanium white
o Transparent oxide red (Rembrandt brand) or Burnt sienna
o Yellow Ochre
o Ivory Black
Be sure to also bring a roll of paper towels! Viva towels or shop cloth are preferred.
